-  Lunasdal 2006 -

Sorry for the belated post. This year's Lunasdal celebration was held this past weekend, and a good time was had by all attendees. We had one guest, and the usual large quantities of food. The evening portion was held later than usual due to the horrendous heat; however, we made our farewells to Brighid and celebrated the first harvest with cheesy taters.

Unlike Bealtainne, Lunasdal is a half-day festival. It begins after noon with the digging of potatoes for the evening feast. This is following by a lunch of sandwiches and other fixings.

During the day, we sat and talked, while my daughter played and watched television.

In the evening, each person took a cut flower (representative of their first harvest), and this was placed in the hole from which the potatoes had been removed. The harvest was returned to the earth (buried) and thanks and farewells were made before going in to feast.

After the feast, tales were told of Lugh and the second battle of Mag Tuired, after which each person (in the fashion of Lugh renewing the Tuatha de Danaan) said what talent that they wield for their community.
